Managing ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) can involve a combination of strategies, lifestyle changes, and sometimes medication. Here are some general mental health OT tips that may help:

Establish a Routine: Establishing a daily routine can provide structure and help manage time more effectively. Include specific times for waking up, meals, work, and sleep.

Use Timers and Reminders: Set alarms or timers to help manage time. This can be especially helpful for transitioning between tasks or remembering to complete certain activities.

Break Tasks Into Smaller Steps: Large tasks can be overwhelming. Break them into smaller, more manageable steps. This makes it easier to focus on one part at a time.

Use Visual Aids: Visual aids, such as charts, calendars, or to-do lists, can provide a visual representation of tasks and deadlines. Colour-coding or highlighting important items may enhance their visibility.

Incorporate Regular Exercise: Physical activity has been shown to improve focus and reduce hyperactivity. Regular exercise can be a beneficial part of an ADHD management plan.

Practice Mindfulness and Relaxation Techniques: Techniques such as meditation and deep breathing exercises can help manage stress and improve attention.

Medication Management: In some cases, medication may be recommended. Stimulant medications, such as methylphenidate or amphetamines, are commonly prescribed. Non-stimulant medications like atomoxetine are also options. However, medication should be used under the supergvision of a healthcare professional.

Stay Organised: Use tools like planners, calendars, or digital apps to keep track of tasks and deadlines. This can help prevent forgetfulness and reduce stress.

Seek Support from Friends and Family: Educate those around you about ADHD, and let them know how they can support you. Having a strong support system is invaluable.

Seek Support from an Occupational Therapist: If you would like professional support to navigate your ADHD journey, and Occupational Therapist will support you to create a manageable approach to your daily activities that works for you.

Remember, managing ADHD is a personalised journey, and what works for one person may not work for another. It may be helpful to work with healthcare professionals to tailor a management plan that suits individual needs and circumstances.
